Leila McLean
Ko Tongariro te maunga
Ko Taupō-nui-ā-tia te moana
Ko Tūwharetoa te iwi
Ko Te Heuheu te tangata
Kia Ora! Ko Leila McLean ahau, but feel free to call me "Whaea Engine!" I’m excited to begin this new journey of ako (teaching and learning) at Te Ao Mārama School as Kaiārahi i te reo Māori. As I approach the end of my second year in the Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) degree at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, I am eager to combine my knowledge, passion, and dedication to inspire and guide the future leaders of tomorrow—ngā rangatira mō āpōpō.
My culture is my source of inspiration, empowering me with pride and purpose. It strengthens my resilience, values collaboration, and fuels my determination to succeed. The wisdom of my tūpuna and the richness of our traditions drive me to share this journey of ako through te reo Māori, tikanga, and Kapa Haka.
I find joy in kaupapa Māori, music, dance, outdoor adventures, sports, enjoying authentic street kai, capturing moments through photography, and sharing exciting whānau getaways with my loved ones. These passions infuse my life with adventure, creativity, and endless fun!
Above all, I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of many students. I believe that teaching is not just a job, but a calling, and I am excited to dedicate myself to this noble profession.
“Pihanga ai ua, ai hau, ai marangai!”
This well-known Tūwharetoa kīwaha honours my tupuna maunga, Pihanga, a woman of many talents—fierce like the wind and strong as the hail. Like Pihanga, I bring a wealth of skills, values, and strengths to Te Ao Mārama school. I look forward to meeting you all!
